US Business Leaders Meet Shehbaz Sharif, Discuss Investment In Pakistan

US-Pakistan Business Council and BCIU delegation highlights plans to expand investment and partnerships across key sectors

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met a joint delegation of the US-Pakistan Business Council (USPBC) and the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) in New York on Thursday, with discussions focusing on expanding US investment and business partnerships in Pakistan.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Shehbaz welcomed the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the US corporate sector and highlighted investment opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, information technology, artificial intelligence, and mines and minerals.

The prime minister said creating a business-friendly environment and attracting foreign investment remained among his government’s top priorities.

US Investment Interest

The meeting was attended by senior representatives of U.S. companies doing business with Pakistan, including Boeing, Abbott, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Resecurity, Mastercard, Nvidia, ETS Capital, TRG International, Archer Daniels Midland Company, Northshore Medical Lab, Reckitt, Visa, and Excelerate Energy.

Ms Esperanza Jelalian, President USPBC, thanked the Prime Minister for his continued engagement with the U.S. enterprises and briefed the Prime Minister regarding plans of the US Chamber of Commerce to promote investment opportunities offered by Pakistan.

BCIU President Peter Tichansky said member companies were interested in expanding their existing investments in Pakistan and exploring new partnership opportunities.

The two business organisations assured the prime minister that they would continue working closely with Pakistan’s government and private sector to strengthen bilateral commercial cooperation.

The prime minister described Pakistan as an important destination for US businesses, citing the size of its market and its youthful workforce.

Representatives of the participating companies also briefed Shehbaz on their existing business interests in Pakistan and plans to expand their presence in the country.
