KABUL, Afghanistan: The United Front of Afghanistan has said that its forces carried out three operations against Taliban regime forces in the southern provinces of Helmand and Kandahar over the past 24 hours.
The resistance group said two Taliban regime police officers were killed and two others wounded in an attack on the Taliban’s first police district in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province.
The resistance group said two other Taliban regime members were targeted in a separate operation in the Bolan area of Lashkar Gah’s seventh police district.
In another operation in Daman district of Kandahar province, the group said its forces targeted a Taliban regime member.
The United Front said those targeted had been involved in the detention, torture and killing of security and defence personnel who served under Afghanistan’s former government.
The latest claims come amid a series of attacks on Taliban regime officials and positions by anti-Taliban groups in several parts of Afghanistan.
Rocket attack in Kunduz
The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) said it launched a rocket attack on a Taliban regime army corps in Kunduz province on Wednesday evening.
In a statement, the resistance group said the attack took place at about 8:30 pm and described the operation as successful.
The NRF did not specify the type of rockets used or provide details of the damage. It said information on Taliban regime casualties would be released later.
Local sources in Kunduz told Afghanistan International on Wednesday evening that they had heard an explosion.
The NRF also claimed responsibility for an attack that killed the Taliban regime mayor of Faizabad in northern Badakhshan province.
The group said the mayor’s guards were also killed.

Local sources had earlier reported an explosion targeting a vehicle carrying the mayor in Faizabad.
The NRF said the attack took place about 100 metres from the Badakhshan governor’s office.
Faizabad mayor killed in explosion
The vehicle carrying Abdul Rahman Mansour was targeted at midday on Thursday, in the Shahr-e Kohna area near the municipal building, according to Afghan media reports.
Eyewitnesses told Afghanistan International that the vehicle caught fire and was destroyed in the explosion.
Mansour, who was from Maidan Wardak province, was the second senior Taliban regime official in Badakhshan to be targeted in the past two weeks.
On 28 July, Zabihullah Amiri, the Taliban regime’s information and culture director in Badakhshan, was killed.
Taliban regime police said Amiri was travelling to his office when two men on a motorcycle attacked him on the Baharak-Faizabad road.
Clashes with dissident Taliban commander
Meanwhile, fighting between Taliban regime forces and Juma Khan Fateh, a former Taliban regime commander, entered a fifth consecutive day in Nusay district of Badakhshan, local sources told Amu TV.
The clashes have raised tensions along Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan.
Local sources told Amu that Fateh’s forces had brought down a Taliban regime helicopter carrying ammunition on Wednesday.
The Taliban Defence Ministry rejected that account. It said the helicopter was damaged while landing after one of its blades struck an electricity pole.
The ministry said no one was injured.
