NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that the number of civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip clearly shows that the Israeli policy in the region is wrong, Western media reported on Wednesday.
Israel after Hamas attack on October 7 has struck Gaza strip, host to 2.3 million people, from the air and land besides imposing a siege.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry in the Gaza Strip, Israel’s bombardment has killed over 10,500 people, most of them women and children.
At least 2,500 others, more than half of them minors, have been reported missing and are most likely trapped under the rubble.
Something wrong with Israeli approach: Guterres
Guterres told western media that the number of civilians that were killed with the military operations shows there is something wrong with Israeli approach.
The UN chief went on to say that it is also important to make Israel understand that terrible image of the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people is against its interests.
Guterres added this policy won’t help Israel as far as the global public opinion is concerned.
He said that the world must distinguish between Hamas and Palestinian people.
He warned that humanity would lose its meaning if Israel continues with the same policy.
Guterres comparing the number of children being killed in Gaza with the toll in conflicts around the world said that Gaza has become a graveyard for the children.
