MOSCOW, Russia: A Ukrainian drone strike killed one person in Russia’s Kursk region near the border with Ukraine on Monday, according to regional officials.

Kursk governor Alexander Khinshtein said the attack took place in the village of Shchekino in the Rylsky district.

“Today in the village of Shchekino, Rylsky district, an enemy drone attacked a civilian vehicle,” Khinshtein wrote on Telegram. “To our immense grief, a civilian has been killed.”

Cross-border drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine have intensified in recent months as both sides continue to exchange strikes in a more than four-year war.

Efforts to bring an end to the conflict have meanwhile stalled, despite mounting casualties and widespread displacement.

Negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire remain at an impasse, with no breakthrough reported in recent weeks.
