MOSCOW: Ukraine launched more than 300 drones across Russian territory on Saturday, with Moscow saying the attacks killed two people in a border region and reached as far as the Ural city of Yekaterinburg, hundreds of kilometres from the frontline.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defences intercepted 328 drones targeting multiple regions, including the Moscow area, Bashkortostan and the Chuvash Republic. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said around 200 drones were directed towards the Russian capital and surrounding region.
In the Belgorod region, acting governor Alexander Shuvayev said two people were killed in areas close to the Ukrainian border as a result of the attacks.
The strikes also reached Yekaterinburg, where Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, temporarily suspended operations at one of its logistics centres after evacuating staff.
The company said the facility was not damaged, although local authorities reported a fire in a nearby parking area. Regional governor Denis Pasler confirmed there were no casualties in the city.

The latest attacks came a day after a Ukrainian drone strike on a factory in Russia’s Kirov region killed five people, according to regional governor Alexander Sokolov, who said security measures had been strengthened following the incident.
Ukrainian authorities have described the factory as supporting Russia’s military operations.
Kyiv has intensified long-range drone attacks inside Russia in recent months, targeting industrial facilities, logistics centres and military-linked infrastructure. The strikes have disrupted transport and business activities in several regions as the conflict between the two countries continues into its fifth year.
