RIYADH: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly rejected allegations asserting its involvement in supplying arms and ammunition to conflicting parties in Sudan. Addressing the claim made by a media outlet, the UAE emphasized its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, stability, and humanitarian aid in the war-torn region.
Afra Al-Hameli, Director of Strategic Communications at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, categorically dismissed the assertions, stating that the UAE has not provided arms or ammunition to any warring factions in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict in April 2023. Furthermore, the UAE maintains a neutral stance in the conflict, refraining from taking sides and consistently advocating for de-escalation, a ceasefire, and diplomatic dialogue.
“Since the beginning of the conflict, the UAE has called for de-escalation, a ceasefire, and the initiation of diplomatic dialogue through bilateral and multilateral meetings alongside its partners,” Al-Hameli emphasized.
UAE Supports Political Process in Sudan
The UAE’s engagement in Sudan has focused on supporting the political process and fostering national consensus toward the establishment of a stable government. The UAE’s commitment to ensuring security, stability, and prosperity in Sudan remains resolute until a lasting ceasefire is achieved.
Al-Hameli highlighted the UAE’s active monitoring of the humanitarian situation in Sudan and its neighboring countries, further underscoring the nation’s determination to provide comprehensive support to alleviate the suffering of affected populations. Notably, the UAE has facilitated the transportation of approximately 2,000 tons of critical medical supplies, food, and relief materials to vulnerable groups, including the sick, children, elderly, and women, through air and sea bridges.
In a notable effort to extend medical care, the UAE has constructed a field hospital in the Chadian city of Amdjarass, providing medical assistance to individuals regardless of their nationality, age, gender, or political affiliation. The hospital has successfully treated over 4,000 cases, symbolizing the UAE’s commitment to human welfare.
Furthermore, the UAE has inaugurated a coordination office for Emirati aid within the city, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to facilitating effective humanitarian support to those in need.
