ISLAMABAD: Pakistan security sources have identified eight terrorists killed during a recent operation in North Waziristan, revealing that at least two of them were Afghan nationals who had crossed into Pakistan.

According to officials, the security forces conducted a successful operation on April 1 in the region, eliminating eight militants described as “khawarij.” Among those killed, two individuals, identified as Hamza and Amir Abdul Rahim, were said to be Afghan citizens.
The development has raised fresh concerns among analysts, who argue that the presence of foreign terrorists challenges claims by the Afghan Taliban that their territory is not being used for cross-border terrorism. Defence experts say the incident reflects ongoing security threats despite diplomatic engagements.
Analysts further contend that the Afghan Taliban leadership may be seeking economic and political concessions from Pakistan under the cover of negotiations, without making substantive changes to their approach towards terrorism. They maintain that expectations of meaningful progress through talks may be misplaced, describing such efforts as largely symbolic.
Experts have also called for intensifying ongoing counterterrorism efforts, urging authorities to continue operations with greater focus and resolve to curb cross-border infiltration.
