Turkiye, Egypt Foreign Ministers Meet PM Sharif in Islamabad for Talks on Middle East Peace

ISLAMABAD: Foreign ministers from Turkiye and Egypt met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Sunday for talks focused on promoting peace in the Middle East, as Pakistan stepped up diplomatic engagement amid the ongoing regional crisis.

The Turkish top diplomat Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty were received at the Prime Minister’s House by Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, before holding a meeting with the premier.

Prime Minister Sharif warmly welcomed the distinguished Foreign Ministers in his office.

The discussions were attended by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and National Security Adviser Muhammad Asim Malik, and focused on regional developments and collective efforts to advance peace and stability.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Türkiye’s Hakan Fidan and Egypt’s Dr Badr Abdelatty are in Islamabad for the two-day talks (March 29–30) on the Middle East conflict.

Islamabad has increasingly positioned itself as a key intermediary between Tehran and Washington, relaying messages and facilitating indirect engagement between the two adversaries.

Earlier today, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the Middle East conflict.

During the warm and cordial meeting, Prime Minister Sharif and the Saudi Foreign Minister agreed to closely coordinate efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and appreciated the Kingdom’s restraint in the ongoing crisis, according to a press release issued by the PM’s Office.

The Prime Minister warmly welcomed the Saudi Foreign Minister and conveyed his respectful regards for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and warm greetings for the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

While reaffirming Pakistan’s full and unwavering solidarity and support with Saudi Arabia, the Prime Minister appreciated the remarkable restraint exercised by Saudi Arabia amid the current crisis and assured the Saudi Foreign Minister that Pakistan would always stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia.

PM Sharif shared with the Saudi Foreign Minister Pakistan’s extensive diplomatic outreach during the current crisis, including the mediation efforts for de-escalation and bringing both the US and Iran to the negotiating table.

While emphasising the Kingdom’s leadership role in the Muslim Ummah, the Prime Minister stressed upon the need to forge unity within the Islamic countries at this critical time.

The Saudi Foreign Minister thanked the Prime Minister for receiving him and shared with him the latest Saudi perspective on the regional situation.

Earlier, the Saudi Foreign Minister arrived at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, where he was warmly welcomed by PM Sharif.

“The Prime Minister warmly welcomed the Saudi Foreign Minister upon his arrival at his office,” the statement said.

Earlier, the Saudi Foreign Minister met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and held detailed discussions on evolving regional and international developments, stressing the importance of collective efforts to promote peace, security, and stability in the region, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Saudi Foreign Minister is in Islamabad for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral engagement and discussing evolving regional dynamics.
