WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has urged fuel retailers across the United States to reduce petrol prices without delay, warning that businesses could face serious consequences if they continue charging what he described as excessive rates.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called on retailers to lower prices immediately and stressed that consumers should not be forced to pay inflated fuel costs. “Gasoline retailers must get their prices down, immediately,” he wrote.

The president also warned against price gouging, describing the practice as illegal, and said authorities would not tolerate retailers taking unfair advantage of motorists.
“There will be no gouging, which is totally illegal. If retailers don’t do this, big problems lie ahead,” Trump said. Trump further suggested that fuel prices should be brought down to around $2.50 per gallon, presenting it as a reasonable target for retailers.
The remarks come as fuel prices remain a closely watched issue in the United States, with the cost of petrol continuing to influence household budgets, inflation and public opinion.
Although Trump did not outline any specific enforcement measures in his post, his comments signal that his administration intends to keep pressure on retailers over fuel pricing.
