WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran had halted the execution of eight women following his appeal, describing the development as “very good news”, although Iranian authorities said that no such executions had been planned.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had been informed that the women, described as protesters, would no longer be executed.
“I have just been informed that the eight women protestors who were going to be executed tonight in Iran will no longer be killed,” he wrote.
“Four will be released immediately, and four will be sentenced to one month in prison,” he added, thanking Iran’s leadership for “respecting my request”.

Trump had earlier urged Iranian authorities to halt the alleged executions, suggesting that such a move could positively influence ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Iran denies execution plans
Iran’s judiciary rejected Trump’s claim, stating that no such executions had been scheduled and claiming that the US President has been “misled once again by fake news”.
The claims emerged after Trump amplified an activist’s social media post alleging that eight unnamed Iranian women were facing execution.
The post included photographs but did not provide verifiable details.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, as both sides weigh the possibility of resuming negotiations.
Trump’s announcement followed his decision to extend a two-week ceasefire with Iran on Pakistan’s request.
A previous round of talks, mediated by Pakistan in Islamabad, concluded after more than 21 hours of talks.
