WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has asserted that the United States maintains full control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, while expressing confidence about the ongoing standoff with Iran.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump said the situation involving Tehran was progressing positively from Washington’s perspective and highlighted the strength of the US Navy in the region.
He claimed that the United States currently held exclusive control over the narrow waterway, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, through which a significant share of global oil and gas supplies passes.
“The situation with Iran is going very well,” Trump said, adding that the US Navy remained unmatched in its capabilities and was ensuring stability in the area.
The US president also voiced strong scepticism towards Iran, accusing its leadership of repeatedly misleading Washington during previous engagements and negotiations.
Trump said he had little confidence in Tehran’s assurances, alleging that Iranian officials had not been truthful in their dealings with the United States.

His remarks come amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a focal point of regional security concerns. While Trump emphasised US influence and military presence in the region, Iranian authorities have consistently maintained that they retain sovereignty over their territorial waters and play a central role in the security of the Gulf.
The latest comments underscore the continuing war of words between the two countries as diplomatic and security challenges in the region persist.
