WASHINGTON: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said that he thinks Vice President Kamala Harris will be easier to defeat in November’s elections than Joe Biden, who earlier in the day stepped aside as his party’s candidate.
“Harris will be easier to defeat than Biden would have been,” former President Donald Trump told CNN. Donald Trump and his campaign later attacked Biden and Harris on social media while claiming Biden was unfit to continue working as president.
Biden has ended his reelection drive on Sunday following fellow Democrats lost faith in his mental insight and capacity to beat Donald Trump. President Biden endorsed his vice president to replace him as the party’s candidate.
President Biden had faced growing doubts regarding his reelection chances following a weak and faltering performance in a televised debate against Donald Trump late last month.
On his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Donald Trump said President Biden “was not fit to run for President of the US, and is undoubtedly not fit to serve.”
In a statement following President Biden dropped out, the Trump campaign stated Harris was Biden’s “enabler in chief.” The campaign maintained that President Biden and Harris owned each other’s records and “there is no distance between them.”
In recent weeks, Trump’s campaign has launched pre-emptive political assaults on Harris to try to discredit her amid discussion she could replace President Biden atop the party’s 2024 presidential ticket.
