GILGIT-BALTISTAN: Thousands of people gathered at Khunjerab Pass on the Pakistan-China border for a flag-raising ceremony marking China’s National Day, according to authorities in Sost, a key border-trade town in Hunza District.
Sost is a town and major border-trade point in Hunza District, Gilgit-Baltistan, situated along the Karakoram Highway near the Pakistan-China border.
The Sost Dry Port and adjoining border facilities handle customs clearance and cross-border trade between Pakistan and China through Khunjerab Pass, making the area an important link in bilateral commerce and regional connectivity.

Local communities, officials and representatives from border areas took part in the ceremony against the backdrop of the Karakoram mountains.
The Chinese national flag was raised as participants extended greetings to the Chinese people on the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Strategic Gateway
Khunjerab Pass, one of the world’s highest border crossings, serves as an important gateway for trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between Pakistan and China.

It is also a key link along the Karakoram Highway and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The border crossing remained closed from Oct 1 to 4 for China’s National Day holiday, with normal clearance scheduled to resume on Monday, according to China’s Xinjiang border authorities.
China’s National Day holiday runs from Oct 1 to 7.
