General Al-Burhan said in a speech addressed to Sudan’s police force in the Red Sea city of Port Sudan that they were facing a war, and “if it is not resolved rapidly the country will be fragmented,”.
The army chief’s remarks echo those he also made in Cairo on Tuesday, Al-Burhan’s first visit abroad since the war broke out. During the trip, he met with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and discussed means to end the conflict in Sudan. However, neither provide any details regarding any possible initiatives or terms.

Earlier, on Monday, the General ruled out any reconciliation with the paramilitary force (RSF), promising that his troops would defeat the RSF.
Last week, Sudan’s army chief managed to leave the country’s besieged military headquarters in the capital city Khartoum, where he has supposedly been positioned since April. General Al-Burhan later visited Port Sudan. According to the UN, the war is estimated to have killed more than 4,000 people.
