RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s expanding technical and vocational education sector is enabling young Saudis to transform their passion for automotive maintenance into rewarding careers and successful business ventures, supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) enrolled more than 12,000 trainees in automotive mechanics and vehicle electrical systems during the 2026 academic year, producing over 2,000 qualified specialists, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.
Backed by government training stipends and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) financing programmes, many graduates have established their own businesses or secured well-paying jobs, with experienced automotive technicians earning between SAR10,000 and SAR15,000 per month.

Demand for advanced skills
Industry experts say the automotive maintenance sector has evolved beyond traditional mechanical repairs, requiring expertise in electronic diagnostics, software reprogramming and advanced vehicle technologies.
Engineer Mohammed Abdullah and workshop owner Nasser Al-Nasser noted that modern repair workshops increasingly rely on sophisticated diagnostic equipment to service today’s vehicles efficiently.

Training for future
TVTC trainer Engineer Mansour Al-Thubaiti said the corporation continues to modernize its training programmes to keep pace with the rapidly changing automotive industry.
