RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s national artificial intelligence team has secured six awards at the inaugural Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (APIOAI), reflecting the Kingdom’s growing emphasis on developing young talent in advanced technologies.
The competition, hosted virtually by China, brought together 129 students from 18 countries, providing a platform for some of the region’s brightest young minds to demonstrate their skills in artificial intelligence.
Saudi Arabia finished with an impressive haul of one gold medal, three silver medals and two certificates of appreciation, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Qusai Emad Jadallah from Jeddah claimed the gold medal, while Laith Suwaid Al-Zahrani from Riyadh, Yousef Farid Al-Khalawi from Jeddah and Ali Ayman Al-Khabbaz from the Eastern Province each earned silver medals.
Meanwhile, Raed Hassan Tayeb from the Eastern Province and Hamad Mohammed Al-Kalbani from Riyadh received certificates of appreciation in recognition of their performances.
The Saudi delegation took part in the competition under the supervision of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and KAUST Academy.
The achievement underscores Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in nurturing young talent in emerging technologies and aligns with the Kingdom’s broader efforts to strengthen its capabilities in artificial intelligence, innovation and the digital economy.
