KHARTOUM, Sudan: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has helped restore and maintain healthcare and water services in Sudan’s Khartoum State.
A team from the Saudi aid agency visited KSrelief’s health and water projects in Omdurman city of Khartoum State on Saturday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The team visited Omdurman Teaching Hospital, Sudan’s largest hospital, where KSrelief provided a 730 KVA generator after security was restored in Khartoum State, at a time when the hospital was operating with flashlights.
The centre subsequently supplied modern medical equipment for emergency, intensive care, radiology, and surgical units, enabling the hospital to perform around 60 surgeries daily. It also established the hospital’s first oxygen station, producing 80 cylinders daily, according to SPA.
The team also visited the Saudi Maternity Hospital and Al-Buluk Specialised Children’s Hospital, reviewing the positive impact of generators provided by KSrelief to keep both facilities operational during power outages. KSrelief has also funded oxygen stations for both hospitals, due to be installed shortly.
In the water sector, the team visited a water treatment station rehabilitation project serving more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.
KSrelief’s support — two 1,000 KVA generators with transfer switches — raised the station’s productivity from 25 percent to 70 percent, stabilizing water supply to Omdurman and providing safe drinking water while reducing waterborne disease risks.
This support is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts through KSrelief to support the health and water sectors across Sudan.
