RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Masam project removed 798 explosive devices from various areas of Yemen last week.
Overall, 781 unexploded ordnances, 11 anti-personnel mines, and six anti-tank mines were removed, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
Under the Masam project funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), 565,137 mines have been cleared so far.
The initiative focuses on clearing mines that have been indiscriminately planted across Yemeni territories, posing a serious threat to civilians, particularly children, women, and the elderly.
The demining operations took place in Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada areas of Yemen.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm KSrelief, continues to intensify its demining efforts in Yemen, working to make affected areas safe and accessible once again.
The project trains local demining engineers, provides them with modern equipment, and supports Yemenis injured by the devices.
These efforts not only help protect lives but also support the restoration of normal daily activities, allowing Yemeni communities to live in a more secure, stable, and dignified environment.
