RIYADH: The Saudi Masam Project removed 863 explosive devices from across Yemen last week as part of its ongoing humanitarian demining campaign.
The project, funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), dismantled 470 anti-tank mines, 6 anti-personnel mines, 384 unexploded ordnance items, and three improvised explosive devices, according to a recent report.
Clearance operations took place across Aden, Al Dhale, Al Hudaydah, Hadramawt, Hajjah, Marib, Shabwah and Taiz, where explosive contamination continues to pose risks to communities, agricultural activity, civilian infrastructure and access routes.

The explosives were planted indiscriminately across Yemen, posing a serious threat to civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.
Saudi Arabia clears 589,188 landmines in Yemen
The total number of mines and explosive remnants cleared since the launch of the Masam Project in 2018 has now reached 589,188.

Through its humanitarian arm, KSrelief, Saudi Arabia continues its efforts to clear mines from Yemeni territory, helping protect civilians, restore access to affected areas, and enable communities to live in a safer and more dignified environment.
Project Masam continues to carry out clearance activities in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS). The project also trains local demining engineers, provides them with modern equipment, and supports Yemenis injured by the devices.
