JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s Masam project has recently destroyed 555 landmines and other explosive remnants of war in Yemen’s eastern Al-Mahra governorate as part of ongoing efforts to make affected areas safe for civilians.
The operation was conducted by Masam’s Special Tasks Team in cooperation with the Executive Mine Action Centre’s Mukalla branch in Hat district, according to a press release.
The project, funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), destroyed items including 429 anti-tank mines and 126 assorted projectiles.

The operation forms part of broader efforts to clear Yemeni territory of landmines and unexploded ordnance, which continue to pose a serious threat to civilian lives and communities.
Saudi Arabia clears more than 588,000 landmines in Yemen
Since launching its operations in Yemen in mid-2018, Masam teams have cleared more than 588,000 landmines, improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance. The project has also cleared more than 85 million square metres of contaminated land.

The Masam project supports mine-clearance efforts by training local demining engineers, providing modern equipment and assisting Yemenis injured by explosive devices.
