MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Friday met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Makkah to review Saudi-Turkish relations, ways to strengthen cooperation, and regional developments.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, National Security Advisor Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban, and Saudi Ambassador to Türkiye Fahad Abualnasr, and the official Turkish delegation, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye sign Joint Defence Agreement
Later, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye signed a landmark trilateral defence agreement aimed at strengthening collective security and expanding military cooperation amid growing regional instability.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence held at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.
“The Agreement is intended to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three States shall be regarded as an attack against them all. It further provides for the enhancement of all aspects of defence cooperation among the three States,” said the joint statement.

The signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement marks the first formal trilateral defence framework between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye and is expected to significantly deepen military and strategic cooperation among the three countries.
Longstanding nature of the strategic relations
Saudi Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy Rayed Krimly, in a statement, said the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement reflects the depth and longstanding nature of the strategic relations among the three countries, which have developed over several decades, and represents the culmination of detailed negotiations conducted over a number of years.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement enables the three signatory countries to develop joint defense capabilities, strengthen strategic deterrence, enhance readiness, and further develop and integrate their respective defense capabilities to jointly address any threats to their safety and security, he said in a post on X.

Under the agreement, any external armed attack against any one of the three countries shall be regarded as an attack against all three.
The agreement does not represent an effort to establish a military axis or a sectarian bloc. Nor is it linked to any nuclear ambitions or arms race, rather it is focused on building sustainable capabilities.
The agreement does not come at the expense of the Kingdom’s strong and strategic relations with its Gulf, Arab, and international partners.
It does not constitute a threat to the security of any country in the region, nor does it represent an escalation of tensions between any two states, he noted.
