RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defence Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz held a telephone call with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, during which he expressed his condolences on the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Prince Khalid prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow His mercy and forgiveness upon the deceased and grant him a place in Paradise, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also held a telephone call on Monday with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and conveyed his condolences on the passing of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Sheikh Tamim expressed his appreciation to the Saudi Crown Prince for his sincere fraternal sentiments.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Sunday also offered his condolences to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of  Qatar, on the passing of his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir  of Qatar.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away at the age of 74, Qatar’s Amiri Diwan announced on Sunday.

He came to power in 1995 and ruled Qatar until 2013, when he voluntarily transferred authority to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in a rare and peaceful succession within the Gulf region.

During his tenure, Sheikh Hamad oversaw Qatar’s emergence as the world’s leading exporter of liquefied natural gas, expanded its global investment portfolio and elevated the country’s influence in regional diplomacy and international affairs.

Despite its relatively small population of around 2.5 million, Qatar has become a significant player in global energy markets and Middle Eastern diplomacy, a transformation widely attributed to Sheikh Hamad’s leadership.
