RIYADH: Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has launched the master plan for a new Abha International Airport, a major tourist destination in south, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
The new facility aims to exemplify a consistent architectural identity with the heritage of the Asir region, converting it into a significant landmark in the Kingdom.
The airport would have a terminal expanding to 65,000 square meters and its first phase would be completed by 2028. The current airport of Abha has a terminal expanding to 10,500 square meters. The expansion plan includes the construction of passenger boarding bridges, advance facilities for travel procedures, and high-capacity parking facilities.

The design of the new airport will demonstrate the architectural identity of the Asir region and show Saudi culture. This design of the airport will offer a unique travel experience with high efficiency, ensuring smooth services for visitors and travelers.
The airport’s capacity will be able to accommodate over 13 million passengers annually and will handle more than 90,000 flights per year. The new facility will have 20 boarding gates, along with 41 check-in counters with 7 new self-service check-in.
The new Abha airport is expected to bring more tourists to the Asir region.
