JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on Thursday strongly condemned brutal Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain during a phone call with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

During the call, the Crown Prince also affirmed that Saudi Arabia stands fully in solidarity with Bahrain and supports the measures it takes to defend its security and stability, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Earlier, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan expressed the Kingdom’s support to Bahrain following flagrant Iranian attacks targeting the Gulf nation. He offered support in a phone call with Foreign Minister of Bahrain Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

Bahrain’s Defence Ministry had said its military intercepted and destroyed three missiles and a number of drones fired by Iran.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement on Wednesday, also slammed the targeting of Kuwait International Airport and several vital facilities, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to others.

The Kingdom reiterated its categorical rejection of these assaults that undermine the sovereignty of brotherly Gulf states, constituting a clear violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and affirms that such violations jeopardise international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the region.

The attacks marked one of the more severe tests of the April 8 ceasefire, which has largely held despite sporadic strikes after more than a month of war sparked by the US and Israeli attack on Iran.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks targeting US bases in Kuwait were launched in response to what it described as an American strike on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
