JEDDAH: The Saudi Cabinet issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s heinous attacks on the Kingdom, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, and several other Arab, Islamic, and friendly countries, denouncing the aggression as a threat to regional peace and stability.
Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, chaired the Cabinet session held on Tuesday via video conference, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
During the session, the Crown Prince briefed the Cabinet on recent phone conversations with leaders of several brotherly and friendly countries, as part of ongoing consultations regarding the latest regional developments and their impact on regional and international security and stability.
The Cabinet strongly condemned Iran’s heinous attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and a number of Arab, Islamic, and friendly nations.
It denounced the aggression for threatening regional security and stability, and for flagrantly violating international law by targeting civilian areas, airports, and oil facilities.
Affirming the Kingdom’s full right to protect its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, the Cabinet emphasised that Saudi Arabia will take all necessary measures to deter aggression.
It also praised the effectiveness of the Kingdom’s air defences in intercepting and destroying missiles and drones aimed at strategic sites and facilities.
Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary told the Saudi Press Agency that the Cabinet reviewed Saudi Arabia’s ongoing role in fostering solidarity, cooperation, and coordination with its Gulf and Arab neighbours to address current regional challenges.
The Cabinet also expressed appreciation for the statements issued by the GCC-European Union ministerial meeting and the League of Arab States ministerial meeting, both of which condemned Iran’s attacks.
It may be recalled that Saudi Arabia on Monday warned that Tehran’s behaviour risks triggering a wider regional escalation that could ultimately harm Iran the most.
In a statement, the Kingdom said Iran’s continued attacks and hostile rhetoric do not reflect wisdom or a genuine commitment to avoiding further conflict, stressing that such actions threaten regional security and stability.
“Iran’s current actions toward our countries do not reflect wisdom or serve the interest of avoiding a widening of escalation, in which Iran would be the greatest loser,” it said.
It added targeting civilian objects, airports, and oil facilities reflects nothing but threatens security and stability and to persist in blatantly violating international charters and international law.
