RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday welcomed the decision of the US to remove Syria from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, extended its sincere congratulations to the government and people of Syria on this step, wishing the Arab nation further security, stability, and prosperity, and continued progress in its reconstruction and development efforts in a manner that fulfils the aspirations of its people.
The Kingdom reiterated its support for the positive steps taken by the Syrian government to reinforce the country’s security and stability, contribute to building state institutions, and fulfil the aspirations of the Syrian people for a more stable and prosperous future.

Saudi Arabia slams terrorist attack on Syrian internal security bus
Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a bus belonging to the Internal Security Forces in the Damascus countryside, which injured several ISC personnel.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, affirmed Saudi Arabia’s solidarity with and full support for all measures taken by the Syrian government to combat all forms of extremism and terrorism.

It also wished Syria and its brotherly people lasting security and peace, and a swift recovery for the injured.
Saudi, Syrian foreign ministers discuss regional developments
Last month, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani in Riyadh and discussed regional developments.
The two ministers reviewed ties between Saudi Arabia and Syria and explored ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said.
They also reviewed the latest developments in the region and ongoing efforts to support security and stability.
It may be recalled that in early 2025, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa chose Saudi Arabia for his first foreign visit as Syria’s new leader.
In May 2025, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, successfully persuaded US President Donald Trump to lift American sanctions on Syria and arranged a meeting between Trump and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa in the Kingdom.
In recent years, Riyadh has focused on humanitarian support for Syrian communities affected by conflict, providing aid in the form of food, medical assistance, and reconstruction programmes.

Saudi initiatives aim to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, support displaced populations, and contribute to the long-term recovery and stability of Syria.
In June, the Saudi aid agency, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), signed a joint executive programme with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to implement a rural women’s economic empowerment project in Syria under the “Bathraa” initiative.
