RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Sunday condemned riots, assaults, and acts of vandalism targeting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, affirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of these attacks and all forms of violence against diplomats.
On Friday, Dozens of people gathered outside the UAE’s embassy in Damascus and tried to storm the embassy.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s condemnation and denunciation of the acts of rioting, assaults, and attempted vandalism that targeted the Embassy of the brotherly United Arab Emirates and the residence of its Head of Mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus, as well as the unacceptable offenses directed at the national symbols of the brotherly United Arab Emirates,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry statement said.
“The Ministry affirms the Kingdom’s rejection of these attacks and of all forms of violence against diplomats, stressing the necessity of ensuring the protection of diplomats and diplomatic missions in accordance with relevant international laws and conventions,” it added.

Syria’s foreign ministry said on Friday evening that it maintains a “firm and unwavering stance” against any attacks on, or attempts to approach, embassies and diplomatic missions.
It stressed that such premises are protected under international law and diplomatic agreements, and represent the relations between nations and their peoples.
On Saturday, the United Arab Emirates condemned what it described as “riots, acts of vandalism, and assaults” outside its embassy and the residence of its head of mission in Damascus.
In a statement, the UAE’s foreign ministry urged Syrian authorities to fulfil their responsibilities to protect the embassy and its staff, investigate the incident, and hold those responsible accountable.
