RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has once again emphasised that individuals holding visit visas are strictly prohibited from performing Hajj, warning that violators will face severe penalties under the Kingdom’s regulations.

According to an official statement reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday, anyone found transporting visit-visa holders to Makkah for the purpose of performing Hajj could be fined up to SR100,000 (approximately $27,000). In addition to the financial penalty, authorities have made it clear that vehicles used in such violations will be confiscated.

The ministry underscored that these measures are part of broader efforts to regulate the annual pilgrimage effectively and to safeguard the wellbeing of authorised pilgrims. By enforcing strict compliance, officials aim to prevent overcrowding, ensure smooth movement, and maintain high standards of safety and security during one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

Reiterating its call for public cooperation, the ministry urged residents and citizens to adhere fully to Hajj regulations and avoid any involvement in illegal transport or facilitation of unauthorised pilgrims. It stressed that compliance is essential not only for legal reasons but also to protect lives and uphold the integrity of the pilgrimage system.

Authorities have also encouraged the public to report violations. Reports can be made by calling 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, while the number 999 is available for reporting offences in other parts of the Kingdom.

This year’s Hajj is expected to take place between May 25 and May 30, subject to the sighting of the moon, which determines the start of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.
