RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced that it will host the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) through videoconference on June 10–11, under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
The high-level meeting, jointly organised by the Saudi Shoura Council and the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, will convene speakers of Arab parliaments and legislative councils, along with representatives from several regional and international organisations, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Speaker of the Shoura Council of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh said the royal patronage underscores Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to strengthening Arab cooperation and advancing regional security and stability.
He emphasised that enhanced parliamentary coordination across the Arab world remains essential to addressing shared challenges, aligning positions on key regional and global issues, and promoting sustainable development and integration among member states.
Al Al-Sheikh further noted that the conference is expected to play a significant role in reinforcing parliamentary diplomacy and improving coordination on Arab affairs at both regional and international levels.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to position itself as a key facilitator of Arab parliamentary dialogue, with the AIPU serving as an important platform for legislative cooperation across the region.
Founded in Damascus in 1974 following the October War, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union aims to strengthen collaboration between Arab parliaments, harmonise stances on regional and international matters, support Arab solidarity and national security, and encourage dialogue, representative democracy and human rights.
The previous, 38th edition of the AIPU Conference was hosted by Algeria on May 3, 2025, marking a continuation of the Union’s rotating hosting tradition among member states.
