MAKKAH: The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has enhanced the Zamzam water distribution system at the Grand Mosque to meet the growing needs of pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season.
The strategy focuses on expanding service points, improving fountain efficiency, reducing waste, and ensuring quicker response times while maintaining high standards of service throughout the mosque and its courtyards, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
The expanded infrastructure now includes 169 drinking fountains and nearly 14,892 water dispensers deployed daily, alongside the distribution of more than 2.1 million cups each day.
Average daily consumption of Zamzam water has reached 1,622 cubic metres, supported by 70 daily safety and quality inspections.
Authorities have also optimised system management by studying demand patterns at key service locations to ensure efficient resource use without interrupting the flow of services.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve the overall pilgrim experience by easing congestion around water stations and facilitating smoother movement within the Grand Mosque.
It also supports long-term operational sustainability through measures aimed at minimising waste and promoting responsible consumption.
