RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Sunday strongly condemned Iran’s latest attacks in the Gulf region, warning that such actions pose a threat to regional stability, international law and freedom of navigation.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks represented a violation of the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter and the Charter of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
In a statement, the ministry said Iran’s actions contradicted the principles of good neighbourly relations, citing repeated attacks on commercial vessels as a growing threat to maritime security and the safe movement of ships in the region.
“Such behaviour threatens the security and freedom of navigation,” the ministry said, stressing the need to respect international norms and regional stability.

Iran launched missile and drone attacks against Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, widening its military campaign across the Gulf only hours after the United States carried out a third round of airstrikes against Iranian targets in retaliation for alleged attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Oman also condemned an attack on its territory, describing it as a serious violation of its sovereignty.
The Oman News Agency reported that the Sultanate “condemned and denounced this attack”, which occurred shortly after Oman hosted Iran’s Foreign Minister for discussions focused on security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest developments have heightened tensions across the Gulf, with regional countries expressing concern over the impact of escalating military confrontations on maritime trade, energy supplies and regional peace.
