NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia has told the UN Security Council that protecting children affected by armed conflicts is a shared international responsibility, requiring collective efforts to address both the causes and consequences of violence.
Delivering the Kingdom’s statement, Saudi Ambassador to the United Nations Abdulaziz Alwasil said Saudi Arabia places a strong focus on safeguarding children’s rights in conflict areas, guided by the principles of Islamic Sharia, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.
Alwasil highlighted the Kingdom’s ongoing humanitarian efforts through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, which has carried out relief projects in more than 90 countries, providing assistance to communities affected by conflicts and disasters without discrimination.
Addressing the situation in Gaza, Saudi Arabia described the crisis as a serious violation of international humanitarian law and shared human values.
The Kingdom called for urgent international measures to end the suffering, protect children, and ensure accountability for those responsible for grave violations, while reaffirming its support for efforts aimed at achieving peace, security and stability.
