RIYADH: The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) continues to strengthen its emergency response capabilities through its air ambulance service, providing rapid medical assistance to critical cases on highways, in remote areas, and through specialised patient transfers between hospitals and referral centres.
According to the SRCA’s 2025 annual report, the service operates 12 air ambulance bases across the Kingdom, supported by two fixed-wing aircraft for long-distance transfers and 13 twin-engine helicopters.
With 170 reserved flight hours, the service covers more than 27 million people nationwide, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
Riyadh Region recorded the highest service coverage at 91.42 percent, followed by Makkah at 23 percent, the Eastern Region at 9 percent, Madinah at 6 percent, Qassim and Jazan at 4 percent each, and Hail at 2percent.
During 2025, the air ambulance service transported 1,526 patients by helicopter.
The SRCA said it continues to enhance emergency preparedness through regular training, periodic drills, and national emergency exercises.

It is pertinent to mention that the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) has also expanded its ambulance fleet with the addition of 257 advanced, state-of-the-art vehicles as part of a major initiative to strengthen emergency medical services and improve healthcare for citizens, residents, and pilgrims.
Equipped with the latest medical technologies, the new ambulances serve as mobile advanced care units, allowing emergency response teams to begin critical, life-saving treatment before patients arrive at healthcare facilities.
The upgraded fleet features electric stretchers to improve patient handling and reduce physical strain on paramedics, along with advanced air purification systems to help minimise infection risks.
