MOSCOW/KYIV: Russian overnight strikes killed four people and wounded at least 16 in Ukraine’s central Dnipro region, while a Ukrainian drone attack killed one civilian in Russia’s Kursk region near the border, officials said on Tuesday.
Dnipro regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha said the number of people injured in the Russian attack had risen to 16.
“This enemy attack has claimed the lives of four people,” Ganzha wrote on Telegram.
The strikes were the latest in a war now entering its fifth year, with both Russia and Ukraine stepping up long-range drone and missile attacks.
Meanwhile, authorities in Russia’s Kursk region said a Ukrainian drone struck a civilian vehicle in the village of Shchekino in the Rylsky district on Monday.
“Today in the village of Shchekino, Rylsky district, an enemy drone attacked a civilian vehicle,” Kursk governor Alexander Khinshtein said on Telegram. “To our immense grief, a civilian has been killed.”
Cross-border drone attacks have intensified in recent months as both sides continue to exchange strikes far from the front lines.
Efforts to end the conflict have largely stalled despite heavy military and civilian losses, with negotiations remaining at an impasse.
Negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire remain at an impasse, with no breakthrough reported in recent weeks.
