DNIPRO, Ukraine: A Russian strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro killed two people and injured eight others, regional authorities said on Thursday.

“Two people have been killed and eight injured… one person remains unaccounted for,” said Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional administration, in a statement on Telegram.

Among the injured are two girls, aged 9 and 14, who were hospitalised following the attack. Three other adults were also admitted to the hospital, with doctors describing the condition of all victims as moderate.

Drone strikes caused significant damage to residential areas across the city, including a multi-storey apartment building. Fires broke out in several districts, with multiple flats engulfed in flames.

Emergency services were deployed to the scene as authorities continued to assess the full scale of the damage and casualties.

Located in southeastern Ukraine, Dnipro has been a frequent target of Russian missile and drone attacks throughout the war. The latest strike comes amid an intensified wave of aerial assaults across Ukraine this month.

Ukrainian officials say Russian forces are increasingly launching daytime barrages and combined missile-and-drone attacks aimed at maximising civilian casualties and targeting infrastructure beyond the energy sector, including water systems and logistics networks.

Recent strikes have also hit Odesa, Kharkiv, and Kramatorsk. A particularly large-scale attack on April 16 left at least 17 people dead across multiple cities.

Ukraine has continued its own long-range drone campaign, reportedly targeting a drone factory in southwestern Russia and industrial sites in the Leningrad region.
