MOSCOW: Russian authorities claimed on Friday it had arrested a man suspected of attempting to disrupt Russian air defense systems, along with a woman accused of planning an attack on railway infrastructure near Ukraine.

The arrests were made as voting commenced in presidential elections aimed at extending Vladimir Putin’s tenure.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) said that they apprehended a Russian man in Moscow for engaging in activities “intended to counter Russian air defense systems.” An investigation into charges of high treason has been initiated, with potential penalties including life imprisonment.

According to the FSB, the suspect in question assembled and deployed unmanned aerial vehicles to serve as decoys near facilities belonging to the Russian Defense Ministry.

State media aired footage depicting masked men in military attire conducting a search in a small room and arresting the man while he was in bed.
