ISLAMABAD: Riyadh has joined the Global Quality of Life Index (QoLI), a global initiative established through a partnership between Saudi Arabia’s Quality of Life Program Centre and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
According to the centre’s announcement on Tuesday, Riyadh’s inclusion is part of efforts by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Riyadh Region Municipality and the Quality of Life Program Centre.
The collective efforts aimed to strengthen the Saudi capital’s position among leading global cities in quality of life, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The index provides a unified framework for cities to measure performance across health, well-being, the urban environment, and economic and social opportunities.

It uses quantitative and qualitative indicators covering housing, mobility, public services, green spaces, safety, and physical and mental health. The index enables city authorities to monitor progress in improving residents’ quality of life.
The accession reflects Saudi Arabia’s efforts to adopt international best practices in urban planning and city development and contribute to global initiatives aimed at creating more sustainable and liveable cities.
The move is also aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to position Riyadh among the world’s most attractive cities for living, working and investment.
Saudi Vision 2030, launched in 2016, is Saudi Arabia’s national transformation strategy aimed at diversifying the economy beyond oil, improving public services and raising living standards.
Its programmes include major investments in urban development, tourism, culture, transport, housing and environmental sustainability, with Riyadh positioned as a key centre of economic growth and international investment.
