The United States, Mexico and Canada will officially launch the biggest World Cup in history, with a record 104 matches spread across 16 host cities.
While the US hosted the tournament in 1994 and Mexico in 1970 and 1986, Canada will host the competition for the first time. The global event will run from tomorrow’s opening match in Mexico on Thursday, June 11, to the final on Sunday, July 19, in New York.

Three ceremonies, one shared theme
The three interconnected ceremonies, staged 90 minutes before each host nation’s opening match, are built around a shared theme designed to unite the three countries while showcasing each nation’s culture.
Produced by Marco Balich, creative director behind several Olympic opening ceremonies, each show will feature distinct visuals: Canada through a cultural mosaic, Mexico through traditional papel picado, and the US through what Balich called “a super shiny, glowing cup.”

“The FIFA World Cup is a moment the world shares, and that begins with how we open it,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In Mexico City, artists including Alejandro Fernandez, Belinda, J Balvin, and Maná will perform, alongside Shakira and Burna Boy debuting “Dai Dai.” Authorities have declared June 11 a public holiday in the capital.

Toronto’s ceremony on June 12 will feature Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, and Nora Fatehi, marking Canada’s first-ever World Cup match on home soil. The Los Angeles ceremony later that day includes Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema, and Tyla.
Fans can watch live on FOX, Telemundo, and Tubi in the US; CTV and TSN in Canada; and BBC and ITV in the UK. Combined live attendance across the three venues is expected to reach roughly 200,000 spectators, with a global television audience in the tens or hundreds of millions.
