DOHA: Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the worsening situation in Lebanon and the broader security challenges facing the Middle East, according to an official statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

The two senior officials exchanged views on recent developments in Lebanon, where continued instability has heightened concerns about the potential for a wider regional conflict. They also reviewed ongoing efforts aimed at containing tensions and preventing further deterioration of the security environment across the region.

During the conversation, Sheikh Mohammed underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement and dialogue to address the growing challenges confronting the Middle East. He stressed the need for all parties to support initiatives that promote stability and reduce the risk of further escalation.

According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of reaching an agreement that would pave the way for lasting peace and security in the region.

He reiterated Qatar’s longstanding position that political dialogue and negotiated settlements remain the most effective means of resolving conflicts and preventing humanitarian crises.

The discussion also focused on regional efforts to maintain stability at a time of heightened uncertainty, with both sides recognising the importance of coordinated diplomatic initiatives to defuse tensions and avoid a broader confrontation.

Qatar has been actively involved in mediation and conflict-resolution efforts across the Middle East and has consistently advocated peaceful solutions to regional disputes.

The Gulf state has maintained diplomatic channels with a wide range of regional and international actors, positioning itself as a key facilitator of dialogue during periods of crisis.

The telephone call between Sheikh Mohammed and Araghchi comes amid increasing international concern over developments in Lebanon and fears that existing conflicts could trigger a wider escalation affecting regional peace and security.

While the Qatari statement did not provide further details of the discussions, it indicated that both officials agreed on the importance of continued diplomatic engagement to support stability and encourage efforts aimed at achieving a durable and comprehensive peace in the region.

The exchange reflects ongoing consultations between regional stakeholders as governments seek to address emerging security challenges and prevent further instability in the Middle East.
