LAHORE: Following the historic appointment of the nation’s first female chief minister to the Punjab chief executive’s office, the province is making history by appointing its first Sikh member to the provincial cabinet.
According to media reports, Ramesh Singh Arora, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was sworn in as a minister, taking charge of the minority’s portfolio. Arora, who hails from Narowal district, has served as a lawmaker since 2013, marking the first Sikh representation in the Punjab Assembly.
Alongside Arora, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, a member of Punjab’s religious minority, was also inducted into the cabinet, assuming the role of human rights minister.
The Punjab cabinet reflects a mix of new and seasoned figures, with several individuals taking on ministerial roles for the first time, while others bring years of legislative and governmental experience.
