PSL chief executive Salman Naseer revealed that the proposed competition, tentatively named PSL Sixes, could follow a format similar to the Hong Kong Sixes tournament.
Speaking during a PSL podcast released ahead of the league’s governing council meeting, Naseer said discussions were still at an exploratory stage, and no final decision had been taken.
“Nothing is finalised, but there are some exciting plans, and one of them is a sixes tournament, called the PSL Sixes, which will be in the off-season,” he said.
PSL Beyond Major Cities
Naseer said the proposed tournament could provide an opportunity to organise matches in smaller cities and stadiums that have not previously hosted PSL fixtures.
A shorter format involving fewer players could make the competition easier to organise while providing additional commercial opportunities for franchises and sponsors.
He said the initiative could become a recurring event if the proposal proves feasible.
However, identifying a suitable window for overseas players remains a potential challenge because of their international and franchise cricket commitments.
Since its establishment in 2016, the PSL has expanded its presence across Pakistan, with Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi among its established venues.
Meanwhile, preparations are continuing for the 2027 PSL season, which is expected to overlap with the Indian Premier League for the third consecutive year.
The PSL governing council is expected to finalise the tournament schedule and arrangements for the player auction.
Further details regarding the proposed six-a-side competition have yet to be announced.
