LAHORE: Led by an impressive captain’s knock from Saud Shakeel and a explosive batting display from Rilee Rossouw, the Quetta Gladiators posted a formidable total of 195 runs in their must-win Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11 clash against the Karachi Kings on Saturday at Gaddafi Stadium.

The Gladiators’ innings began on a disastrous note, losing both openers, Shamyl Hussain and Khawaja Nafay, for golden ducks in the very first over, courtesy of pacer Hasan Ali. However, the team swiftly recovered the momentum as skipper Saud Shakeel joined forces with Rossouw to dismantle the Kings’ bowling attack with aggressive stroke play.

Rossouw delivered a superb performance, notching up his 14th PSL half-century while steadily accumulating crucial runs. The duo’s resilient 100-run partnership also enabled Shakeel to register his fifth PSL half-century. Their dominant 148-run stand was eventually broken by Rizwanullah, who dismissed Shakeel for a valuable 57 off 34 balls, featuring nine boundaries.

Despite the breakthrough, Rossouw continued his onslaught, propelling the team past 150 runs alongside Hasan Nawaz. The South African eventually fell for a fiery 90 off 54 deliveries, including eight fours and six sixes, caught off Abbas Afridi’s bowling.

Gladiators then lost two quick wickets, Hasan Nawaz for just two runs and Jahandad Khan for three, courtesy of Rizwanullah and Afridi, respectively.

Dinesh Chandimal remained unbeaten on 30 off 17 balls, while Alzarri Joseph added two runs as Hasan Ali bowled the final over. For Karachi, Abbas Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Rizwanullah each claimed two wickets.
