President Biden to Host South Korea, Japan Leaders Aug 18: White House

WASHINGTON:  US President Joe Biden will host South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio for a summit at Camp David on August 18, the White House said on Friday.

In a statement, the White House said, “The leaders of the US, Japan, and South Korea will celebrate a new chapter in their trilateral ties as they reiterate their strong relations, friendship, and the ironclad alliances between the US and the Republic of Korea and Washington and Tokyo,”.

Reuters reported that the US wants to encourage closer cooperation with its two major allies in Asia amid shared concerns about Beijing’s growing might and North Korea’s missile and nuclear programs.

Seoul and Tokyo have been moving to mend tense bilateral relations following years of disputes over historical problems.

Jean-Pierre said that the three leaders will “advance a shared trilateral vision for addressing international and regional security issues and boosting economic progress and prosperity.
