GILGIT: A “Peace Rally” was conducted in Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday with the aim of nurturing an environment of peace and unity while diffusing tensions prevailing in the region.
The participants of the rally called upon the people to reject the divisive narratives that exploit differences based on sect and creed. The rally, commencing from Benazir Chowk Gilgit and culminating at Ittihad Chowk, saw the active involvement of a significant number of individuals along with members of the Awami Action Committee.
During the Peace Rally, Fida Hussain, Chairman of the Awami Action Committee, Ehsan Advocate Jahanzeb Inqalabi, a distinguished legal expert, and other leaders addressed the audience. They collectively voiced their rejection of the escalating sectarianism in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The speakers underscored the dangers of external attempts to sow discord among the local population. Stressing that Gilgit-Baltistan could ill afford further sectarian strife, they urged the community to remain resilient and united. By doing so, they emphasized the region’s atmosphere of peace and harmony would endure.
Gilgit-Baltistan Rejects Division
The speakers noted that concerted efforts were being made to inflame unrest and conflict in Gilgit-Baltistan. They warned of the widespread consequences if the situation deteriorated, emphasizing that maintaining peace was vital. A peaceful environment, they pointed out, would spur the growth of tourism and business activities, benefiting not only the local population but the entire region.
