ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have killed five Indian sponsored terrorists during two separate intelligence-based operations (IBO) in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on 7-8 May, a military statement said on Friday.

“On reported presence of khwarij, an intelligence-based operation was conducted by Security Forces in Tank District,” the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

It added that during conduct of the operation, the troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and after an intense exchange of fire, four terrorists, belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij, were sent to hell.

The state uses the term “Khawarij” to refer to the Indian backed terrorist groups, especially the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to the ISPR, another intelligence-based operation was conducted by security forces in Dera Ismail Khan District. “In ensuing fire exchange, one kharji was effectively neutralized,” ISPR said.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists, who had been actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies are continuing search operations to neutralise any remaining threats.

The ISPR reiterated the nation’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, stating that counterterrorism efforts will persist under the “Azm-i-Istehkam” strategy, as approved by the federal apex committee under the National Action Plan.

Authorities have affirmed that the campaign against foreign-sponsored terrorism will continue with full force to maintain peace and stability in the country.

Terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan

Pakistan has witnessed a rise in cross-border terror attacks since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Taliban regime to take action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory.

However, the Taliban regime failed to take any action against terror groups and prevent Afghan soil from being used against Pakistan.

Pakistan is currently carrying out an Operation Ghazab Lil Haq to respond to cross-border attacks and dismantle terrorists infrastructure threatening national security.
