Pakistan’s First PM’s 71st Martyrdom Anniversary being Observed

KARACHI: The 71st death anniversary of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan is being observed today (Sunday).

Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan was Pakistan’s first and the longest serving Prime Minister in the country’s constitutional history. He was the most dedicated leader in Pakistan’s journey to independence.

Liaqat Ali Khan was born in Karnal‚ East Punjab and got his education from Aligarh Muslim University, and Oxford University, United Kingdom.

He started his political career in 1926 when he was elected as member of Legislative Council, in which position he worked till 1940.

Nawabzada Liaquat Ali played a very significant role in freedom struggle along with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to get a separate homeland for Muslims of sub-continent.

People from all sections of life paid rich tribute to Liaquat Ali Khan for his contribution and services and termed him a great hero of Pakistan’s freedom movement. They said that the government, academia and civil society should devise a strategy to document his struggle and services to tell his stories to the upcoming generation.

He was assassinated on October, 16 in 1951 during a public gathering at company Bagh in Rawalpindi which was later named after him as Liaquat Bagh. He was buried at Mazar-e-Quaid compound in Karachi.
