QUETTA, Pakistan: An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province has sentenced Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) activist Mahrang Baloch to life imprisonment in connection with the killing of a Frontier Corps (FC) soldier during a protest gathering in 2024.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta delivered the verdict on Monday after nearly two years of legal proceedings. The case relates to the death of FC soldier Shabbir Baloch during the Raji Muchi gathering held in the coastal city of Gwadar in July 2024.

According to the court verdict, the soldier sustained fatal injuries after being struck by stones thrown by participants during the public gathering. He later died from his injuries.

Prosecutors told the court that the incident occurred during an event organised as part of the Raji Muchi protest. A criminal case was subsequently registered over the killing of the FC personnel.

The court sentenced Mahrang Baloch to life imprisonment after finding her guilty in the case. She and several co-accused were tried inside Quetta Jail under heightened security arrangements.

Mahrang Baloch was arrested in March 2025 for orchestrating violence.
