ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has welcomed the approval of the resolution entitled “Countering religious hatred constituting incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence” by the UN Human Rights Council, local media reported on Wednesday.

In a tweet, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that they are grateful to all the member nations of the United Nations Human Rights Council that supported the resolution tabled by Pakistan on behalf of the OIC. The Prime Minister said incidents like public desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden should not be tolerated at all.
He said all holy personages, religious symbols, and Divine Books are equally sacred for followers of all faiths. The PM said those elements indulging in such vile and despicable actions as the burning of the Holy Quran need to be called out publicly.PM Sharif further said humanity is better served by a consensus on the resolve to protect the shared values of religious tolerance and respect for all faiths.
