ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday held a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker, with both sides agreeing to strengthen cooperation against organised crime, drugs and human smuggling.
The discussions focused on the overall regional situation, peace and stability, and ways to further strengthen Islamabad-Washington cooperation.
The two sides discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly through joint programmes and training initiatives for police officers.

US envoy praises Field Marshal Munir’s diplomatic role
The US envoy appreciated the positive diplomatic role played by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan seeks US financing to boost investor confidence
Earlier, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the South Asian nation is focused on securing US financing to serve as a confidence signal to private investors.
He told the Financial Times that Islamabad had received constructive engagement from Washington over the $ 10 billion swap line and hoped to receive an answer in the next couple of months.
The Finance Minister said the government wanted to stimulate exports to break the import-dependent country’s perennial balance of payments crises.
He said Exim Bank could finance sales of Boeing aircraft to the newly privatised Pakistan International Airlines and help US companies to upgrade the country’s oil refineries, while Development Finance Corporation could take equity stakes in Pakistani conglomerates.
Google opens first office in Pakistan
In a landmark moment for Pakistan’s rapidly evolving digital economy, Google inaugurated its first local office in the country on August 18, signaling the US-based technology giant’s long-term commitment to one of the world’s fastest-growing internet markets.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and a Google delegation led by Wilson L. White, the company’s Vice President of Global Affairs, at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.
US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also attended the meeting, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the tech giant’s expansion into the South Asian nation.

The inauguration marks the culmination of over a decade of Google’s investment and engagement in Pakistan, evolving from virtual presence to a tangible, on-the-ground commitment.
The United States has consistently supportedthe country’s digital development, viewing it as a key element of bilateral economic cooperation.
Pakistan, Google sign MoU on child online safety
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Google LLC have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen child online safety and promote responsible use of digital platforms across Pakistan.
The agreement will see the two organisations collaborate on a Child Safety Programme aimed at raising awareness, providing education and building the capacity of parents, teachers and caregivers to help children navigate the digital world safely.
Under the initiative, PTA and Google will develop online safety awareness material in English and local languages, conduct training programmes at educational institutions and support a nationwide outreach campaign.
