Pakistan, Turkiye Sign Agreement to Strengthen Counterterrorism, Security Cooperation

ISTANBUL: Pakistan and Turkiye have signed an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism, narcotics trafficking and organised crime.

The agreement was signed by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Turkish counterpart, Mustafa Ciftci, in Istanbul on Friday.

During their meeting, the two sides also agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to enhance coordination and cooperation between the interior ministries of both countries.

Naqvi briefed his Turkish counterpart on the positive results of Pakistan’s crackdown on illegal immigration networks.

Ciftci appreciated Islamabad’s effective measures, noting that the rate of illegal immigration from Pakistan to Turkiye had declined significantly from 70 per cent to 17 per cent.

Both sides also agreed to expand bilateral cooperation through technical assistance, the exchange of experts and joint initiatives to address shared security challenges.

The meeting further focused on strengthening collaboration in cyber policing, the Anti-Narcotics Force, the National Police Academy and other relevant areas.

The agreement reflects the commitment of  the two countries to deepen security cooperation, improve law enforcement coordination and tackle cross-border criminal activities through joint efforts.
